Eligibility Requirements:
New employees are required to provide evidence of eligibility for employment as established by the Department of Homeland Security – U. S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and must complete the appropriate portions of Form I-9.
All I-9’s are entered by HR into a system provided by Homeland Security called E-Verify. The E-Verify program is a web-based system operated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in partnership with the Social Security Administration that allows employers to electronically verify the employment authorization of newly hired employees.
The completed I-9 form and supporting documents must be sent to HR within 72 hours of the employee’s hire date. The Human Resources Department retains the I-9’s and photocopies of the employee’s eligibility documentation.
VETERAN’S PREFERENCE
El Paso County applies a veterans’ preference to all hiring decisions. In accordance with the Colorado Constitution, Art. 12, § 15, former military personnel or their spouse must be verified as a “veteran” by providing their or the service member’s DD214 or a letter from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) indicating a service-connected disability. The veterans’ preference does not guarantee the veteran a job. Positions are filled with the best qualified candidate as determined by the County.
The DD-214 or letter from the U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA) must be uploaded with your application in order to receive veterans’ preference.
ACCOMMODATION PROCESS
El Paso County is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all applicants, including those who may require accommodations during the hiring process. If you have a disability or need support at any point during your application or interview, you may request a reasonable accommodation. Requests will be handled promptly and confidentially, in alignment with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and County policy. El Paso County strives to ensure that every candidate has fair access to employment opportunities.

El Paso County is an Equal Opportunity Employer. The County does not discriminate against persons because of their genetic information, age, gender, gender identity and gender expression, color, race, religion, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation, disability, political affiliation, or traits that are historically associated with a person’s race, to include stereotypes associated with hair texture, hair type, and protective hairstyles in making employment decisions, including determining suitability for employment, compensation, promotion, transfers, education, discipline, demotion or discharge. Selection decisions will be made in a non-discriminatory manner consistent with this policy and EEO principles.
