El Paso County Public Health announced it has hired Dr. Robin Johnson as the agency’s new Medical Director.
Dr. Johnson, MD, MPH(c), FACEP comes to Public Health from the Colorado Springs Fire Department where she served as Deputy Medical Director for the Community and Public Health Division, developing programs that connect individuals in crisis with community resources. She also represented El Paso County Public Health as the Medical Officer of Clinical and Community Health Partnerships, educating practitioners and community members on topics surrounding opioid use.
“Dr. Robin Johnson brings a wealth of experience and a passion for public health,” said Director Dan Martindale. “We are thrilled to welcome her to El Paso County Public Health.”
She has served 26 years in medical practice and health care advocacy in the Pikes Peak region. She spent more than two decades practicing emergency medicine at UCHealth Memorial Hospital and previously held the position of Medical Director at the Medical Mission Center.
Dr. Johnson’s public health interest lies in the integration of public health and clinical medicine. She is passionate about creating a system of care that fosters collaboration to prevent disease and injury before it occurs.
Dr. Johnson has served on several boards in El Paso County, including TESSA, Mission Medical Center, UCHealth Memorial Hospital, Community Health Partnership and was recently appointed to Peak Vista Community Health Center’s Board of Directors.
She received her medical degree from the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine and completed her residency in emergency medicine at Denver Health Medical Center. Dr. Johnson is currently completing a master’s degree in Public Health at The George Washington University.
Dr. Robin Johnson replaces Dr. Chris Nevin-Woods who worked for Public Health from July 2016 to June 2018.
