El Paso County began construction of the Chipita Park Road Drainage Improvements at Sand Gulch this week. The project is located along Chipita Park Road, approximately 13 miles northwest of downtown Colorado Springs and adjacent to Ute Pass Elementary School.
The Project will generally consist of reconstruction and armoring of the Sand Gulch channel between U.S. 24 and Chipita Park Road, installing a concrete box culvert under Chipita Park Road, and new construction of an armored channel that will feed into Fountain Creek. El Paso County has retained 53 Corporation to perform the work, and Felsburg Holt & Ullevig will provide construction management services.
The Project is expected to be completed in summer of 2019. Chipita Park Road will be closed in early 2019 for installation of the concrete box culvert. Expect delays. Detours will be used and a full road closure will accelerate the safe and efficient completion of this project. Specific dates for the closure will be announced at a later date. Construction completion dates are dependent upon weather and resource availability.
Drivers are reminded to reduce speeds and to watch for workers, equipment, signs and barricades. El Paso County wishes to thank drivers in advance for their cooperation.
Funding for the project is provided through the Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program that came as a result of the 2015 flooding that poured out of the Waldo Canyon Fire burn area.
