Clerk and Recorder Chuck Broerman will present proposed subdividing of nine precincts within El Paso County at the Board of County Commissioners meeting tomorrow, May 16, 2019.
As required by Section 1-5-101 of the Colorado Revised Statutes, each county’s Clerk and Recorder is authorized to subdivide precincts that contain between 1,500 and 2,000 active eligible voters, within the boundaries of the original precinct and adjacent precincts. Precinct boundary changes are an administrative change, and may be accepted by the Board of County Commissioners at the May 16, meeting.
“All members of the community are invited to attend the presentation at the Board of County Commissioners Meeting to see the proposed subdivision plans,” stated Clerk and Recorder Chuck Broerman. “It is exciting to see continued population growth and an increased number of active registered voters in El Paso County.”
A precinct is the electoral boundary foundation for Colorado elections. Each voter in El Paso County lives in a precinct, and the boundaries help elections administrators determine the offices, ballot questions, and issues for which voters are eligible to vote.
With El Paso County’s continual growth and the number of active voters increasing in the 2018 General Election, the Clerk and Recorder’s Office must subdivide precincts to maintain compliance with State law.
