El Paso County Parks to host several events in October including a Cornhole tournament at Black Forest Regional Park.

Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day

Saturday, October 6, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

At Fox Run Regional Park

El Paso County Parks, Medicine Wheel and Cafe Velo wants you to join them for National Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day at Fox Run Regional Park. The event will include guided trail rides, trail etiquette clinic, prizes and more. This is a terrific way to get kids outside in the woods having fun on their bikes. All ages are welcome: from tots on stride bikes to teens. Riders just need a working bike and helmet to participate. Saturday, October 6, 2018, will mark the 14th annual celebration of Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day, an event that has put more than 53,000 kids and adults on bicycles worldwide.

Introduction to Wilderness Survival

Thursday, October 11, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

At Bear Creek Nature Center

Learn the basics of Wilderness survival, such as the Rule of Threes, top 10 must haves in the backcountry, top ten mistakes people make in the outdoors, wild animal safety awareness and more. This class is instructed by Jason Marsteiner, a Colorado Native and owner of The Survival University. Jason has been practicing survival techniques most of his life, began officially teaching survival in 2010 and is a former instructor of one of the largest survival schools in the world. $25 per person. This class is limited to 15 participants and pre-registration is required.

Rainbow Falls Geology Walk

Saturday, October 13, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

At Rainbow Falls Historic Site

Join Professor Mark Izold, Pikes Peak Community College Geology, and discover the rich geologic history of the Rainbow Falls area. We will see and touch the Great Unconformity and hear about the Cambrian and Ordovician time periods and evidence for life found in the strata of this area. The paleoenvironment in which these animals lived will also be discussed. $4 per person.

Family Cornhole Tournament

Saturday, October 20, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

At Black Forest Regional Park

Come to Black Forest Regional Park to try your hand at Cornhole! This tournament is a family focused event and is good for all ages. Bring the family and a picnic to enjoy the day at Black Forest Regional Park. All proceeds will go to Friends of El Paso County Nature Centers.

Youth Division: 12 years old and under: $10 per team

Teen Division: age 13 to 16 years old: $15 per team

Adult Division: age 17 to 117 years old: $20 per team

$2 discount for Friends of El Paso County Nature Centers, and Military Families and Veterans with ID

Rainbow Falls Clean-Up Day

Saturday, November 3, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Spend a morning giving back to your community by helping clean up Rainbow Falls. Be sure to dress appropriately, bring a water bottle, and work gloves if you have them. All are welcome: call to RSVP.
