Organize your community, neighbors, school, church, or organization to be more ready and resilient in disaster. A Ready & Resilient Neighborhood is any group that wants to work toward preparing for a possible disaster and taking action following a large-scale emergency. The effort can be as casual, or as formal, as group members determine. The Office of Emergency Management can help your group get started and offer guidance for your efforts along the way. Ready & Resilient groups may be included in local training and exercises if interested.
Steps to start a Ready & Resilient Neighborhood Effort
- Schedule a one-hour meeting or reserve time at your next neighborhood or club gathering. Email to request a presentation or to receive materials to do the presentation on your own.
- Designate coordinators for your local effort. They will help develop a plan for your group, including assignments for those who wish to have a role.
- Learn disaster preparedness skills. Free workshops are listed on our CERT page or may be scheduled by request for interested groups.
- Stay in communication and practice with drills, exercises, or short refreshers.
- Send an email if you are interested in becoming a Ready & Resilient Neighborhood Lead, or use this guide to get your own neighborhood effort started!
- Not much time to devote to emergency preparation? Take an online course for free to learn how to help your neighbors, friends, or coworkers do just ONE thing a month to be more ready. Register for the Do One Thing AMBASSADOR TRAINING at www.safeandready.org.
