Veterans' Preference

El Paso County applies a veterans’ preference to all hiring decisions. In accordance with the Colorado Constitution, Art. 12, § 15, former military personnel or their spouse must be verified as a “veteran” by providing their or the service member’s DD214 and/or a letter from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) indicating a service-connected disability. Veterans’ preference does not guarantee the veteran an interview or job. Positions are filled with the best qualified candidate as determined by the County.

The DD214 and/or letter from the U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA) must be uploaded with your application in order to receive veterans’ preference.

Please note: You must select DD214 or VA Benefit Summary Letter as the “attachment type” to maintain the confidentiality of this document.

Selected for an Interview

  • You have been selected to move forward in the interview process. Human Resources will contact you to confirm scheduling details.

Contingent Offer Extended

  • You have been extended an offer and will be contacted by the Talent Acquisition Specialist with the offer details.

Pending Backgrounds

  • You have accepted the contingent offer, and your backgrounds are in progress.

Hired

  • You have accepted a contingent offer. Human Resources will work with you to coordinate your onboarding and I-9 Verification steps.
